— The New Hampshire Department of Education chose Brewster Academy as the location for a special event for its Best Schools Initiatives program.

The Brewster visit was planned as a special event to get the Best Schools teams thinking about how they could best use technology to further educational goals at their respective schools, explained Cathy Higgins, educational technology consultant for the state. Brewster also has a reputation for excellence in teaching, and excellence in teaching is among the action points that schools chosen as Best Schools must work toward, Higgins said.

"I was aware of good things happening at Brewster, partly from attending the recent Apple-sponsored open house at Brewster," said Higgins. "We wanted to encourage Best Schools teams to see the Brewster model and how it might transfer to their situation."

The Best Schools Initiative is a statewide program with the goal of improving student success--at school, in the work place, and in the community. It is designed to bring educators, the business community, state policy makers, parents, and municipal officials together to improve results for New Hampshire's children by improving public schools.

About 35 school administrators, teachers, school board members, and representatives of the State Department of Education attended the daylong seminar. Attendees came looking for curriculum ideas to implement at their own schools and to learn about ways to use technology more effectively for educational improvement, something Brewster has become known for worldwide.

Brewster Academy is an international leader in independent secondary education and is widely recognized for its success in using advanced learning and information technologies to accelerate student growth in a vigorous college preparatory environment. Brewster provides its 367 students (Grades 9-12 and post-graduate) with a personalized curriculum based on individual mastery and best-teaching practices in a sophisticated technology-rich learning environment.

Brewster Academy is accredited as a secondary school by the New England Association of Schools & Colleges, Inc.

The Academy is located on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee in the resort community of Wolfeboro, N.H. Learn more about the Brewster difference by visiting us at www.brewsteracademy.org or giving us a call at 603.569.7494.
