A Boathouse and More

BoathouseThe Pinckney Boathouse is more than just a building that houses the school’s crew shells and fleet of 420 racing sailboats. It also serves as an entertainment center for the campus.

With its docks on Lake Winnipesaukee, Pinckney Boathouse is the dry-land meeting place for Brewster’s competitive sailing and crew teams as well as its recreational kayaking and canoeing programs.

It is also a popular site for the starting and ending point for road races and post-race lunches, alumni reunions, new student and parent orientation sessions, plays and concerts, and other campus events. In addition, it also doubles as a playhouse of sorts offering a spacious main room with stunning views of the Lake and mountains; a conference room that is a popular venue for on-campus events, seminars, and performances; and even a small kitchen.

Whether you are experienced in water sports or want to learn, you’ll have many opportunities at Brewster:

Crew—Started in 1989 as a recreational sport, Brewster crew has evolved into a multi-level competitive program. Brewster crew student-athletes develop into cohesive crews that compete in the New England Interscholastic Rowing Association (NEIRA) and U.S. Rowing Association junior team ranks. Brewster offers fall and spring crew team competition.

Sailing—The sailing program offers instructional training in the fall with the basics of high performance dinghy sailing taught to those who have not sailed competitively. The spring program offers competitive high school racing to anyone, regardless of their prior experience. Brewster is one of few schools in the Lakes Region to offer a sailing program.

Kayaking and canoeing—You’ll participate in these two activities through spontaneous trips on Lake Winnipesaukee as well as organized trips to bodies of water in New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, and beyond through Brewster Academy’s Outdoor Skills Program.

Soccer and field hockey jamborees—Join students from schools throughout the Northeast in friendly competitions held on the Brewster campus in early Fall.
