Student Leadership Opportunities

The Student Leadership Program is based on the belief that each student can develop leadership skills in unique ways. The school, therefore, offers each student the opportunity to realize and develop leadership skills. The benefits to the student leader are obvious; the benefits to other students
are that they interact with peer leaders, and through those leaders, all students have a voice in the operation of the school. Examples of some leadership opportunities available during the year include proctors, tour guides, athletic team captains, prefects, judicial board members, community service project organizers, club membership, and positions on the publications staffs. Below are the school prefects for the 2007-2008 school year. The links on the right will introduce you to other student leaders. Eligibility for student leadership positions is determined by recognition status for the first five recognition periods of the year. In addition, students must be in good standing with the school; specifically students cannot be on Disciplinary Probation or on an Attendance Contract.

Student Government
Seniors hold the offices of senior prefects but any student meeting the eligibility requirements may run for the position of prefect. The senior
prefects represent the student body at regular meetings with members of the administration. Brewster’s student government consists of thesenior prefects and the prefects. The student government is the liaison between students and faculty and administration. It seeks to identify areas of need and propose solutions and policy changes. It functions as the general legislative branch of the student body.
