Varsity Field Hockey 2007 Season Review

At the opening of the season the 2007 Brewster Academy varsity field hockey team showed great promise and beat Gould Academy in their first game. They then went on to defeat Hebron Academy, who knocked the 2006 BA team out of the New England Tournament last season. The team faced a series of tough competitions against Class A and B teams, and Lakes Region rivals Kimball Union Academy and Holderness School. Following a few tough losses and some key comebacks to tie, BA headed back to the drawing board and showed dedication and hard work as a team to turn it around. The Bobcats dug deep and learned from their experiences. Brewster’s hard graft, tenacity and belief in teamwork helped turn the tide for the Bobcats as they rallied for six consecutive shutouts and a five game winning streak. BA V FH pride and passion was the catalyst for the team to step it up, which led to a hard fought overtime tie versus Proctor Academy. Brewster rode the momentum to beat Gould Academy in a well-deserved 2-0 victory. The team then hit the road to Kent’s Hill, Maine for their 8th away game of the season. The game was fast and furious, but the Bobcats played a tactical game to earn the win. The varsity team had the boost that they needed back on home turf for the final three regular season games. An intense game versus New Hampton School tested the strength of the team, but the Bobcats were prepared for nothing less than the win, and they did just that! BA showed great resolve as they faced Proctor Academy in a rematch from earlier in the season. With some smart plays and perseverance this win was huge for the Bobcats, and placed them third in the Lakes Region overall standings. Brewster peaked for their most impressive game in their regular season finale against a well-skilled Class B Worcester Academy. The team showed their true colors and took play to the next level showing heart and soul for their seniors. The Bobcats played their ultimate game plan with a textbook finish to bring home the W. The sound of the final whistle had the BA team rushing with overwhelming emotion to center field to celebrate a class victory. Brewster’s tenacity would pay off with the 2007 varsity field hockey team earning the seventh seed for the New England Class C Tournament. The Team faced #2 seed Millbrook School at the neutral playing field of Deerfield Academy for quarterfinal play. The Bobcats turned pressure into points in the first half of the game and took the early lead, but Millbrook stole the thunder in a tough second half to win 2-1 in a quarterfinal that was anyone’s game. We learned many lessons in the season of 2007, and we always kept the faith and believed in the power of our team. Your coaches are proud of each and every one of you, team.

This is the sixth consecutive New England Tournament berth for the Bobcats under the leadership of Coach Yau and Coach Cornwell.
