Celebration after winning NEPSAC Class A Campionship March, 2008

The 2008 Graduates

The Team

Over the years, Brewster has had very strong boys' basketball teams. The program has sent players to many Division I schools, including the University of Connecticut, University of North Carolina, University of Virginia, Duke University, Providence College, Iowa State University,University of Texas, Brown University, University of Washington, and Columbia University.

Brewster has sent 41 players to NCAA programs in the past five years.

The 2007-08 team captured the New England Class A Championship and advanced to the National Final Four, finishing with a school-record 31 victories (31-4). The team also won the New Hampton School Invitational for the 2nd consecutive year, as well as the championship at the Maine Central Institute Invitational and Brewster Invitational.

The basketball program is increasingly attracting the attention of colleges and universities across the country. This year, representatives from more than 100 schools have visited campus to watch our student-athletes. Visiting schools include: The Ohio State University, Syracuse University, University of Arizona, Kansas University, University of Memphis, Dartmouth College, Vanderbilt University, Harvard University, Princeton University, University of Iowa and Xavier University.

The goal of Brewster's Boys' Varsity Basketball Program is to play competitively within the NEPSAC Class A division and to be in a position to qualify for post-season play in the New England Tournament. While striving for a successful competitive record, coaches also teach team play, provide players with the best coaching in fundamental offensive and defensive skills, and help players grow in self-confidence and self-esteem.

The Coach

Jason Smith

Jason Smith begins his ninth season as head coach of the Brewster Academy boys' basketball team.  Smith is anxiously looking forward to the 2008-09 season and maintaining the Bobcats spot as a top program in New England and a consistent contender for the New England Preparatory School Athletic Conference (NEPSAC) Class A title, which the Bobcats will be defending this season.

Under Smith’s direction, the Brewster Academy program has enjoyed tremendous success over the past seven years.  The team has qualified for seven consecutive NEPSAC Class A tournaments and have finished ranked in the top 10 nationally in each of those seasons.  During the past eight years, his record stands at 169-73 (.698 %).

During Smith’s tenure, the program has sent 54 student-athletes to NCAA Division I programs and many others to NCAA DII and DIII programs.

At the young age of 19, Coach Smith founded his own summer basketball program (Elevation Basketball Club), which placed young men at prestigious colleges and universities, including Dartmouth College, the University of Virginia, Amherst College, Syracuse University, The Citadel, Boston University, and the College of William and Mary.

Coach Smith spent the 1995-96 campaign as an assistant coach at Plymouth State College (NH) and helped lead the team to the school’s first-ever NCAA DIII bid.

He was named the head varsity coach at Pittsfield High School in New Hampshire at the age of 22. After 1 year as the head coach at Pittsfield, he elected to learn under the late Frank T. Monahan, a former NBA scout and college head coach, as his assistant coach at Bishop Brady High School (NH).  The team spent most of the 1997-98 season ranked as the #1 team in New England. He also has held assistant coaching positions at his former high school, Merrimack Valley (NH), Proctor Academy (NH), and Notre Dame Preparatory School (MA).

Coach Smith works in the Admission Office as Associate Director.
